UPDATE: Posting for Dummies

Filed under: General News — admin @ 8:45 am

What’s that? Do you dream about being a Mustang Muse contributer? Do you want your great literature, multimedia, visual arts and performing arts to be immortalized on the Internet? Great. With 3 minutes of your time and little reading comprehension, you too can be a contributer to the site.

1.) First, if you do not yet have an account create one here. After registering, check your email for your password and login here. You may change your password and other profile settings here.

2.) After creating an account, you can login at the bottom of the screen by clicking the “Login” link. To write a post, click the “Write” tab. After you compose your post and you check the correct category on the right hand column, click “Submit for Review”. A site editor will review it before it is finally posted on the site.

3.) Wait for your work to be published and write more.

Final check: Before you click “Submit to Editor”, freeze and make sure you post follows these guidelines:

  • Make sure your post is grammatically correct and does not contain any typos.
  • Make sure your post is posted in the right category, to label your post, click the corresponding boxes on the right hand column; if you’re posting a nonfiction story, you would check “Nonfiction” and “Literature”.
  • NEW If your submission is themed, ie Green Week, put “green week” in the “Tag” field. For other themes, ask Mr. Williams or the current creative writing teacher what you should tag it.
  • Copy and paste a small “snippet” of your post into the “Optional Excerpt” box.
  • If you including any media files such as a video or an audio file, make sure they work.

How to upload images:

1.) Login and go to the write tab. Write up a witty sentence or two to accompany your work. Click on the “Code” tab. Under the area for typing, there should be an “Upload” section. Click browse, find your image, fill out the other fields and upload it.

2.) You should now see a small thumbnail of your image. Check the boxes for “Show: Thumbnail” and “Link to: File”, go back to the text box and place your cursor wherever you want to insert your picture and click “Send to editor”.

3.) This is where it becomes difficult: you can take the easy way out and leave it as it is; when you click on the thumbnail of your image it will load in a new page. If you want your picture to appear as below, continue on.

You should get something like this:

<a href=”Image URL” title=”Title of Image”><img src=”Thumbnail URL” alt=”Title of Image” /></a>

You want to edit that line to look like this:

<a href=”Image URL” rel=”lightbox” title=”Title of Image”><img src=”Thumbnail URL” alt=”Title of Image” /></a>

Two Interviews

Filed under: General News — Erenn Gray @ 8:37 am

Adrian Orange is a very spirited young man who has released many records through many different labels. For a while he performed under the name “Thanksgiving,” then, in 2006, it was “Adrian Orange.” In 2007, it was “Adrian Orange and Her Band.” Most recently, he has settled into the name “Ajo.”

This interview was conducted, via email, on November 14th, 2006.

Q: Do you have any really disagreeable tour stories?

A: My van was stolen right before this tour. Mostly, I have been lucky. I’ve had a lot of records stolen at shows, and some stuff stolen out of my old truck once. Nothing really horrible.

Q: Do you have a favorite song of yours? That’s kind of a dumb question.

A: I go back and forthwith which ones I like and liking any of them. I usually like the new ones best, immediately after making them up at least.

Q: When my mother saw that one of your records, now available through Marriage Records, is titled “(Censored by the San Marin Administration) the World” she said that she needs to start monitoring what I listen to. What do you have to say to her?

A: Why?

Q: Do you read good books and things?

A: Yeah. I read a story by Pushkin called “The Queen of Spades.” It was really good. I bought a bunch of books recently that I am excited to get in to. They are all Dover thrift editions of Nietzsche, Voltaire, Pushkin’s short stories, and then I got this other weird book about socialism for free from my friend in Wilkes Barr, Pennsylvania who is really good at fixing stuff.

Q: I just watched Home Alone 2 and I remembered that on your record “Welcome Nowhere” you have a song called Home Alone Parts 1 and 2. What do you think of Kevin McCallister’s parent’s negligence? Do you have plans to make a song called Home Alone Parts 3 and 4? If so, will this be a DVD only release?

A: Yes, definitely. There will be a collection of bloopers serving as the main feature. I think his dad is a d***, of course, but his mom seemed well-intentioned, but overworked and stressed out. Maybe if they had a smaller house, they wouldn’t lose each other so easily.

Q: Thank you!

A: Thank you.

Phil Elverum, also a young man, has also released many records through his own company, P.W. Elverum and Sun, and through K Records. He performed under the name “The Microphones” for a while, though now he is known as “Mount Eerie.”

This interview was conducted sometime in April, 2007.
Q: I’m going to say two words, and you will say the first four words you think of. Soda Pie.

A: Why…are…you…this.

Q: Which death rocked you harder, Saddam Hussein’s or Anna Nicole’s?

A: Saddam.
